You may feel you’re alone but take heart. Research suggests there is a connection between sensitivity to touch and conditions like migraine, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — a symptom called allodynia.
What Triggers Allodynia?
Allodynia may sound like the name of a small foreign country, but it’s the clinical name for a common symptom found in many diseases, including migraine.
If you have a migraine, you are likely among the 80 percent who experience allodynia during attacks.
Allodynia is defined as a painful sensation after a light touch from something that shouldn’t normally provoke pain. For example, the simple task of running a brush through your hair, the waistband of your pants or underwear, or the elastic hair tie that securely holds your ponytail.
These normal occurrences typically don’t cause pain — unless you have allody
