What is Grandparents Day? Why do we celebrate it?

President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation declaring a National Grandparents Day in 1978, according to Generations United.

The official proclamation of Grandparents Day says the holiday is “to honor grandparents … and to help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”

Grandparents Day isn't technically a federal holiday, but a good excuse to show appreciation to your loved ones.
