    Panic Hardware for Doors | Is Panic Hardware Required?

    In order to determine if a door requires panic hardware, we will be looking at Section 1010 of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) which outlines when panic hardware is required.

    This section deals with doors that serve as a means of egress system.

    When is Panic Hardware for Doors Required?

    Section 1010.2.9 of the 2021 International Building Code reads as follows:

    Panic and fire exit hardware.

    Swinging doors serving a Group H occupancy and swinging doors serving rooms or spaces with an occupant load of 50 or more in a Group A or E occupancy shall not be provided with a latch or lock other than panic hardware or fire exit hardware.
